Since Orange Law refuse to give me any information besides the textbook list* until orientation (I guess that had to hold something back in order to fill up a whole week), I’ve been trolling blawgs to see what I’m in for. And since I’m not yet bored enough to start practicing briefing, I’ve been putting together law school appropriate oufits on Polyvore.
You see, up until Jansen enlightened me, I was unaware that there is a sort of dress code for law school. Gone are the days where I could roll out of bed, throw on sweats and a baseball cap and doze comfortably through my 8am class. Now I have to put on real pants that zip and doze uncomfortably (lol). Of course, I knew better than to wear an itty bitty tank and my distressed Gap short shorts (comfortable though they are) to class. But no shorts or tanks EVER?!? I’ll be in the hottest part of Georgia, that’s just not gonna work.
It turns out that I was worried prematurely. According to Huma, law school is merely a time in which my fashion needs to evolve towards that of a “Business Casual Superstar”. So basically, I can wear jeans to class but it’s time to start throwing out the ones whose cuffs have been destroyed from being worn with flip-flops instead of real shoes. Being a busty gal I have to wear tanks that hide the straps of my full coverage bra, but if they’re coming to law school I need to layer a blazer or cardigan on top. And it looks like Sperrys and Nine West flats, not Nikes and Chuck Taylors, are gonna be my new comfort shoes of choice.
Sigh. I can do this, but I’ll certainly miss wearing logos on my butt.**
*Rendered half useless since most of the classes are assigned by section, and we don’t get our section assignments until orientation.
**Not really.

I think the idea of “dressing professionally” disappears by about the first week, at least at NYU. The business casual conscious are in minority here and a lot of people roll into class wearing jeans and t-shirts or even sweats, particularly as finals draw closer.

Business casual is fine in the winter because most sweaters are inherently sensible. But it’s gonna be waaaay too hot down here in August to even contemplate wearing a suit, or anything heavier than khakis and a polo.

Remember, your school probably has AC, so it is more likely to be too cold inside than too hot.
Just don’t look like a hobo. That’s all we ask.

Hahaha! I have one of those mothers who only wears pants to garden in and doesn’t leave the house without red lipstick. I like to be comfortable but if I ever venture outside looking like a hobo, it’ll be on an ambulance gurney.
